I am a basset hound looking to socialize. I live in Paris, Lamar county, TX and would like to make friends with other bassets in the area, at least 1 weekend per month. Any basset interested? We can meet sometime at my home and sometime at yours.

I have a basset that I adopted from a family moving to Europe in Canada. They were so sad to give up their puppy. Otis was only about 4 months old when i got him. It makes me so happy to find people like you who run programs like this one. Basset Hounds make wonderful pets. Mine follows me around my house from room to room. Keep up the wonderful work. Good luck to all of you with the sweet dogs that you have with you right now.
You are a special group of people with very warm hearts. I only wish the world knew that this particular breed of dog is exactly that... warm, giving, and so affectionate at times it's stunning.

We are moving into the Wichita Falls area, and are looking forward to adopting a Basset. I know this is not so close to the DFW area, but we saw your site and fell in love! My husband and I have a young Autistic son, who loves doggies, and we believe an older bassett would be a perfect buddy. We are probably going to be moving into an apartment first, so we will contact you all on if adoption is possible while living in apartments. Can't wait to meet our 'hopefully' future hush puppy!

We have submitted an adoption application and are now waiting. We have an adopted greyhound who wants a brother or sister. My husband and I both love the bassets and can't wait until we can add one to our family. Thank you to all of the people involved in the rescue process and a special thank you to all the foster families.

Fred fka Dennis has been with us 4 years. He was my son's 18th birthday present. Fred has the house under his control. He gets a walk every morning before we leave for work. My younger son takes him out at noon and then goes to college and then he gets a walk when Mom gets home from work and then at least 2 more walks before bedtime. He has learned to get his rawhides out of the bag and hides them everywhere to make sure he keeps a supply around. All the kids in the neighborhood know who Fred is and stop to get a kiss and fred knows a hug is coming too. He loves to ride in the car and go to the park and run around the baseball field. He is a very spoiled fella and knows how to get his way.

I am now in the process of trying to adopt a basset by the name of Samson, I am so excited and I have be praying trouble time that Samson will soon become a member of my family. I do not understand how anyone can look into the eyes of a Basset and not fall completely in love. I can't wait to start spoiling my precious little angel. Thank you for loving animals like you do and working so hard in finding them a happy and safe home. God bless all of you.

We are the adoptive parents of Chelsea II, 10-31-2007.
Farful the Wonder Dog is Chelseas new brother, and they get along far past any expectation we may have had. We found that this type of dog needs the companionship of other dogs and not just human contact.
We would strongly urge others to consider finding companionship for their single Basett masters.
Chelsea II has been a blessing and well received sweety by her new partner Farful the Wonder Dog, a rescue also.
Thanks for the kindness you show these sweet animals.

Joni and I perused your website this evening and were marvelously entertained!
I didn't know that were people out there like us who gave their basset full names? Ours is 'Daffodil Rose Heinz.' We laughed out loud at some of the funny photos and were touched by many of the stories. Thank you for your works sake.

We adopted "Mr Bassett" whom we renamed Duke from Cleburne Animal Shelter July 3, 2006. He was very sick with pneumonia, kennel cough, bacterial infection probably from running in the rain. He hate THUNDER. After 4 wks of treatment he was vaccinated, and neutered. He is completely housebroken, shares inside with 1 austrailian shepherd Bandit (rescue dog) and 5 adults Cats all rescued. He loves to play outside, sniff, sniff, sniff, I am sure that is how he got lost the first time. All of our animals wear collars with names and addresses. They enjoy each other. Sleep with either other. Basset dogs are the most friendly gentle canines except for their powerful paw pads! Enjoy yours today and adopt one. You won't be sorry. They are adorable.

We rescued FARFUL the Bassett Hound from Arlington Humane Society, June 2005, as a rescue, Country Acres Kennels. He is a very active and gentile fella. We are considering a companion for him, but do not know if he will allow another dog in "HIS" house.
We had Wired Haired Fox Terrorist for many years, and were quite supprised at the domain building and high activity level of the boy.
Thanks for listing.

We contacted the Rescue in our ares, Sugarland, TX, but could not locate what we wanted. We loved Rufus so much because he loved us and trusted us, unconditionally. What a bright time in our lives when we found him, and I hope to have another.

Here is something I wrote for my old Basset. Thought I would share it.
My Dog In Heaven
For Maggie
09/05/91 - 06/23/02
Animals can't get in Heaven
I've heard some people say
I'm going to tell you
I don't think it's that way.
Our good dog left us
A short time ago
She's waiting on us in Heaven
As we continue life below.
It's really not so sad
She's been given all she enjoys
All her favorite things in life
Including those doggie toys.
She has a big tall chair
So she can sit way up high
It even has a nice soft pillow
And she sleeps below a clear blue sky.
She has lots of kitties
To remind her of home
So when she needs a playmate
She doesn't have far to roam.
Her days are filled with playing
With dogs and cats and such
So her time without us
Doesn't seem so much.
But when we go to bed
That's when I miss her most
She used to lay beside me
And some nights I feel her close.
One day we'll all be together
This may take some time
But I can not wait to hold her
And read to her this rhyme.

I adopted my dog from N. Texs Bassset Hound Rescue in October 2005, soon after my beloved Penny, also a rescue basset, had passed away.
Greta, who was called Rosie by the rescue society, is the greatest ! She is doing wonderfully. I'm sorry I never contacted y'all. Shortly after I got her, I had all these things come upin my life..I even missed the 2006 Shuffle.
I don't have digital camera to send pictures yet, but she is beautiful..She is also extremely well-behaved and , of course, adorable.
Thank you soo muchN. Texas Basset Hound..I'm sending a donation. I hope to become a volunteer & help in thenear future.

Our Buddy lost his battle to lymphoma on November 21, 2006. He was only 6 1/2 years old but we loved every minute we had with him. Buddy was my daughter's best friend and she sleeps with his blanket. We had him euthanized as he was in pain and no longer ate-truly amazing for Buddy. We held him as he passed on and cried for days. There is an emptiness in our home now without Buddy but there will always be a warm spot in our hearts for being fortunate enough to have Buddy in our lives.

North Texas Basset Hound Rescue,
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for putting Bess on your web page. I adopted her from the Sachse Animal Control last Wednesday and I am completely hooked on Basset's now. She is such a little lady and an awesome companion. She loves to ride in the car with me, great with other dogs and even good with my Hurricane Katrina cat, Louie. I cant imagine life without her now. She loves having her ears washed daily and belly rubs and being brushed. She even still loves to play with toys and play fetch.
Lori at the Sanchse Animal control was nice enough to stay 2 hours after work for me to drive there. HUGS from Bess and I, Lori!!!! I am ready for a companion for Bess now (did I mention I am hooked) Thanks NTBHR!!!!!!! Hope to hear from you soon!

We are enjoying the wonderful world of Basset hounds. We adopted Daisy Mae in march of 2006 and we're just delighted with her. Our 3 yr old son and our cat Muck enjoy her also. Our other cat, Tigger, still isn't sure about her. We are discussing adopting another Basset in the near future so Daisy will have company when I start working.

We adopted "Mr. Tanner" on Oct 24, 1998. He was known as Bud, then and was about 2 years old, a bag of bones and scared of everything from wandering alone for so long and from who knows what. He came to live with us and Jazzy, his life-long companion. The last two years he became the best buddy of our beautiful red headed grandaughter. It was only a few short weeks ago that we found out that Tanner had a tumor on his spleen. Unfortunately, the cancer had already spread into his lymph nodes. He got to take one last ride in Dad's truck and go to the park before going on to the vet's office. Tanner blessed us beyond words during his 8 years with us. He never did learn to howl - as we thought he might eventually. We all miss him dearly.

Fantastic job all you volounteers are doing! Too bad adoptions overseas are impossible, I´d take them all. But already have two, maybe that´s enough for now.
